Everyone Needs to Get a Grip About Honey Deuces
There are many other melons to drink during the last few weeks of summer.
Every year leading up to Labor Day, the US Open returns, and each year, our collective mania over the Honey Deuce® ramps up a little further (insert supercut of influencers saying, “Wait, this is SOOOO good”). The three-ingredient cocktail was created 20 years ago by Grey Goose and trademarked by the USTA as the US Open’s answer to Wimbledon’s Pimm’s Cup and the Kentucky Derby’s julep — a tradition concocted specifically to sell drinks inside and outside of the stadium.
In 2024, 556,782 Honey Deuces were sold during the Open, and last year, the figure was more like 740,000. This year, sales have already surpassed 900,000. To accommodate all of this growth, the stadium has started premixing the lemonade and vodka to keep on draft to dispense quickly into plastic souvenir cups. Baldor is preordering melons months in advance from California, and bringing teams of workers in at 6:00AM each morning to hand-scoop out perfect orbs of honeydew for the garnishes.
